Sheng Cai, Pianist "Franz and Cai Wow Friday Audiences"
The nearly capacity audience at the morning concert Friday had come to hear that Mozart, and they were not disappointed, the highlight naturally was the Mozart... His playing was punctuated with big tomato-ripe notes and gorgeously shaped passage work. The reflective second movement showed great sensitivity, but he is no less impressive in the third movement variations which alternated between turbulence and calm. His encore was equally thrilling.

Sheng Cai brought to the concerto some of the same qualities embodied in Pollini's approach, from a clear, singing tone to a subtle sense of rubato to a judicious choice of thempi......This is a young man with real talent.

Pianist Sheng Cai tackles Ravel , Liszt with Condfidence
Pianist Sheng Cai has guts, who else but a self-assured, overachieving 19-year-old would program Ravel's famously difficult"Gaspard de la nuit" then offer Liszt's finger-twisting barn burner,... he has racked up some solo engagements with orchestra as well..... he's done it on the strength of romantic-era music, With great confidence, temperamental piano, impressive for its bravura... gave more lucidity, breath, color and power.

By contrast, Sheng Cai revealed much of the pieces's spirit, capturing both the circus aura and endearing qualities (Stravinsky)... Persuasive in Haydn which received a fine array of dynamics and nuanced details....
